How the WVE works:

By experience, we can say that the concept works in 3 ways:  

1- By increasing the vortex-core's radius

Smooth out the "horseshoe vortex" (Biot-Savart's law): dV = G /4P * dL * r /|r|^3 , similar to the magnetic field strength dB = G /4P  * dL * r /|r|^3 .

The picture from wind-tunnel shows  that WVE increases vortex radius, breaks it and swirls it in opposite direction. The visualization was done with topographic laser technology. The Cl (coefficient lift) was at a value of  0.38 at  a speed of 40 ms.

2- Biplane made of standard and annular wing

Actually WVE is  an annular wing called also 'Ring Wing'; an annular wing does not develop  strong  wake vortex (around 50%). Consequently the combination can be seen as biplane with collateral wings versus superposed ones.

The annular wing can be set to a null or negative angle of attack, in ground or in flight: that way is much more efficient than an aerodynamically twisted one.
In addition it is very well known that cylindrical fuel cells fitted at wing tips improve the flying characteristics. It should be the other way around because of increased wetted area.

3-The differential circulation's speed in and out

The circulation inside the WVE is playing an important role. That was measured in wind-tunnel: Closing WVEs with shaped caps decreases the efficiency of the WVE  by 44%.
